Jonathan got his first spark for bartending while studying Restaurant Management at ITHQ in Montreal at only 17. He realized that bartending was the perfect balance between being a chef and a waiter. He would be able to really take care of a customer from A to Z. He enjoyed the creative and manual side of a Chef’s job but he couldn’t picture himself without the human connection of a guest. Bartender was a perfect option: from greeting your guest, to create a cocktail that he likes and also see the reaction on his face, a complete and perfect experience.
After graduating, Jonathan started as a busboy in one of the first bar with a real cocktail program in Montreal, La Distillerie. Like many others in the city, this bar was the best school to work his way to bartender. He then got his first try as a bartender at the, now worldly famous, Lab, Comptoir à Cocktails. It was only there that he realized the infinite potential of the bartending job.
In the following years, Jonathan experiment a large range of establishment, from Nightclub to Five Stars hotel bar, to learn as many aspects of the profession as possible. During that time, he also started a small events company with a former colleague and began competing in numerous bartending competitions. In 2012, he won Canada’s best bartender during the Appleton Estate Bartenders Challenge and represented Canada in the World’s finals. In 2013, he opened the B1 Cocktail Club with a partner while performing locally and nationally in competitions such as Diageo World Class, Beefeater MXLDN, Bols Around the World and Made With Love. In 2014, he started working as a Johnnie Walker Brand Ambassador for private home tasting. In 2015, he was coordinating the seminars and creating the featured cocktails of Montreal’s Cocktail Week, Invasion Cocktail. He also won the Grey Goose Pourmasters competition and just before the end of the year, he was proposed with a major project that will change his career.
Jonathan was selected to be the first Jack Daniel’s Brand Ambassador in Quebec and be part of a new national program with 3 other Brand Ambassadors. 6 months in the job, he uses his knowledge of the bartending scene in Montreal, his creativity and his contacts to build the brand equity among bartenders and consumers. Wherever there is Jack Daniel’s, you could be sure to see Jonathan and don’t hesitate to have a passionate talk about this wonderful brand with him.
